Portrait Photography Pricing

Why Portrait Photography Pricing Isn’t Just About “What You Paid Last Time

One of the most common things I hear when discussing portrait photography pricing is:

“In the past we always received this..”

“But my last photographer did it this way.”

“But my last photographer charged less.”

Or:

“In the past we only paid this much.”

And I completely understand that reaction. Most people naturally compare photography services to previous experiences. But portrait photography is not a copy-and-paste service, and pricing should never be based only on what someone paid years ago to a different photographer.

One of my favorite quotes from Rick Ross says:

“The audience doesn’t know what they want. The audience only knows what’s come before.”

That quote applies perfectly to portrait photography.

Many clients are used to traditional portraits that are rushed or created with a very basic approach. But modern portrait photography is about far more than simply taking a photo. It’s about lighting, styling, direction, storytelling, editing, location selection, and creating images that actually feel elevated and personal. And the finished products! Don’t forget, its more than just photos for your phone camera roll and your social media to show off to family and friends.

When you hire a professional portrait photographer, you are not only paying for the time spent shooting. You are investing in experience, creative vision, styling, editing, retouching, planning, and the ability to create images that stand out and feel authentic. And with us, again, the finished artwork is what we really care about.

Sometimes the ideas that feel different during the shoot end up becoming the images people love the most afterward.

The goal is not to recreate what another photographer already did years ago. The goal is to create portraits that feel more natural, more cinematic, more confident, and more connected to who you are today.

At Marconi Photography, portrait sessions are designed to create intentional, story-driven imagery that goes beyond standard photos — creating portraits that people remember long after the session is over.
