I need to share something. After talking to so many people who are inquiring about portraits and what they think they want and need and what they think they know and think they want and …what they think they are getting and or going to get… Follow that..lol
So I took a poll for just photographers in a local photography group I am part of.
To me editing is really nothing special for the most part. It is a properly exposed photo. Like the way it should be! You hire some to take a photo it should be delivered to you the way it was supposed to look, with correct colors, and exposure (light and darkness), etc. Sometimes a photographer may put on a filter or something to give it their “signature look”
Now retouching that is something much more! Removing unwanted elements in the background such as bright red exit signs, garbage cans, fixing wrinkles in clothes , editing facial and skin blemishes, teeth whitening, swapping heads and replacing skies, etc.
So when someone says you are getting ALL the “edited” photos all you are getting are all the photos the way they are suppose to be, properly exposed , nothing out of the normal or greatly special. As a photographer that is our job to get properly exposed photos!
Some photographers say you get a certain number of “edited” photos like 10,20, 30 whatever. But they are still not retouched!
Do your homework and ask the photographer what they mean when they say this, because you may be thinking your getting “retouching” when your really not.
I have included my poll from the photographers for you.
You can see almost 60% of photographers only include the normal basics in their “editing”
And here is one of my images before and after editing AND retouching….everything from the sky(not a great sunset that night, so we enhanced it) wrinkles in clothes, people in background, unwanted foot prints and more.
Just trying to share some discrepancies and what each photographer does differently and what each offers and what people expect they are getting and might not be getting…
